WEEKLY UPDATE 29/5 - SOUL!!!

STRINGTRONICS - MINDBENDER
One of the most sought-after library albums of all times and for a good reason - a very consistent set featuring tunes by big names as Nino Nardini, Roger Roger and Barry Forgie. Start with "Safari Park", "Hunted" or "Tropicola" but the whole album is great and highly recommended! Reissue from 2015, plays at 45 rpm.
TRENSUM TRIBE - TRENSUM TRIBE MEETS DOUBLE H STHLM
Swedish hip hop from 2015 with more than a nod to the 90s golden era, far stronger than most in this field. Listen to "Role model" and "Budwiser" feat. Keith Murray. Made in 200 numbered copies + a bonus 7".
MATTHEW HALSALL - FLETCHER MOSS PARK
Impressive UK jazz from one of the best current acts - well worth checking if you're into Swedish top tiles as Bertil Strandberg's "Cirrus" as it has that same mellow vibe. Listen to "Fletcher Moss Park" and "Finding my way".
LESIMAN - HERE AND NOW VOL. 1
Tense and dramatic library LP by Paolo Renosto under his Lesiman alias. Interesting all the way, with chilling yet laid-back bassline grooves, ear-poking compressed piano, and a couple of in-your-face-tracks. Listen to "Colloquio" and "Impulsi". Reissue of very rare and expensive LP on Armando Sciascia's Vedette label. Includes CD.
LESIMAN - HERE AND NOW VOL. 2
Italian library LP similar in sound to the Vol.1, meaning if you like that one, you'll love this (and vice versa). Going from tense to funky with a touch of crime jazz. The bass lines are on point and the pianos are distorted.
D.R. HOOKER - THE TRUTH
One of the true gems in the lounge/loner psych bag. Has a soft, psychedelic vibe and hardly a weak track (which usually isn't the case with this type of record). Listen to the monster "Forge your own chains" and "I'm leaving you". 180 gram reissue of rare private press that will set you back many a coin.
ROLF & JOACHIM KÜHN QUARTET - RE-UNION IN BERLIN
Big German jazz rarity from 1965 including the wonderful "Mobile Waltz"! The rest of the album is a bit more on the advanced side of jazz but not completely out-there, listen to "The Mad Man" to get an idea. Reissue of very rare original.
HAILU MERGIA & THE WALIAS - TCHE BELEW
Stunning Ethiopian jazz/funk, a must-have if you're into Mulatu Astatke. Check clips from "Musicawi silt" & "Ibakish tarekigne". Reissue of ultra rare original on the Kaifa label.
EDDIE WARNER - PROGRESSIVE PERCUSSIONS
Quirky, psychedelic jazz with rough drums by the library master Eddie Warner. Has a rather unique, sloppy but well-crafted sound and should go well with most open-minded people as well as break-heads and electronic aficionados. Listen to "Brutus drums" and "Getting high", but I can safely say this is not a two-tracker.
FRED WILLIAMS - TELL HER
Few copies back in! Awesome lo-fi crossover soul, massive office favorite.
SAUN & STARR - LOOK CLOSER
One of the best new soul releases for years, late 60s/early 70s-sounding with two great voices.
PAINEL DE CONTROLE - RELAX / MALANDRINHO
Massive Brazilian boogie sides, especially "Relax" is lovely.
NDIKHO XABA AND THE NATIVES - SAME
Deep, afro-centric spiritual jazz set featuring Plunky Nkabinde that later formed Juju and Oneness of Juju. Listen to the stunning "Nomusa" that was featured on Jazzman's first volume of "Spiritual Jazz". Limited edition reissue of very rare US original on Trilyte.
BARIS MANCO - 2023
If you're only going to own one Turkish record, this 1975 masterpiece by Baris Manco could be that one. Rock with Turkish folk influences as well as cosmic krautrock.
ERKIN KORAY - ELEKTRONIK TÜRKÜLER
Another one of the essentials among Turkish rock, and not easy to find. Turkish folk sounds done in an electric fashion with superb bass lines and guitar play.
KOMEDA - BALLET ETUDES - THE MUSIC OF
Truly superb jazz set from 1963 by the Polish maestro sided by Jan Wroblewski, Allan Botschinsky, Roman Dylag and Rune Carlsson. Listen to "Crazy girl" and "Ballet etudes" - real stunners! Many superlatives here, but they are called for
