RECOMMENDATIONS

PIERO PICCIONI - COLPO ROVENTE

Absolutely brilliant Italian soundtrack with a very moody and jazzy sound, certainly one of Mr. Piccioni's best! Very consistent yet diverse album mixing dynamic big band sounds with downtempo psych jazz and beautiful romantic scores.

REALITY BAND & SHOW / WANDA MCDANIEL & THE ULTIMATE CHOICE - GANGSTER BOY

One of the most desired 70s soul records out there, and an outstanding piece of music. Killer midpaced groove with a funky edge and on-point vocal delivery. Reissue of ultra rarity on the Appleray label.

SANDRA WRIGHT - WOUNDED WOMAN

"Midnight affair" and "I come running back" are masterpieces that just have everything I want in a soul track. More good tracks too like the Alice Clarke sounding "Please don't say goodnight" and "Sha la bandit". Rare album recorded in 1974, planned for issue on Stax sub-label Truth, but remained unreleased until it got a scarce UK release in 1989 - now finally reissued.

VARIOUS - A NEW LIFE

Strong compilation of British underground jazz ranging from modal and spiritual via amateur big band to fusion and funk jazz. The subtitle "Private, Indepenent and Youth Jazz in Great Britain 1966-1990" gives you an idea of what to expect!

MIGHTY LOVERS - AIN'T GONNA RUN NO MORE

Monster Detroit northern/crossover soul from Popcorn Wylie, awesome and then some!

AMARA TOURE - 1973-1980

Afro-Cuban sound out of Guinea, very nice stuff.

JEANIE TRACY - MAKING NEW FRIENDS

Fantastic 70s soul, one of the true evergreens of the rare northern/modern soul scene, as played to great effect by Pete Shirley at the recent Stockholm Soul Weekender!

STARK REALITY - DISCOVERS HOAGY CARMICHAEL'S MUSIC SHOP

Legendary LP that's highly sought after by producers and collectors all over the world. Very tripped-out mix of funk, jazz & psych - listen to "Comrades", "Grandfather clock" or "Rocket ship" to get the idea. Deluxe 3xLP reissue.

D'ANGELO - BROWN SUGAR

Massive soul/r&b LP from 1995 that's tough to find now. "Brown sugar", "Me and those dreamin' eyes of mine" and the list goes on - not a weak track in sight. Long-awaited reissue.

COSMIC EYE - DREAM SEQUENCE

Trippy jazz/fusion with an eastern vibe, composed by and featuring Amancio D'Silva. Not so far away from Joe Harriott's stuff.

TRENSUM TRIBE - TRENSUM TRIBE MEETS DOUBLE H STHLM

Swedish hip hop from 2015 with more than a nod to the 90s golden era, far stronger than most in this field. Listen to "Role model" and "Budwiser" feat. Keith Murray. Made in 200 numbered copies + a bonus 7".
